This guide was practically worthless on our February 2015 guide to Rome. In the past, I have bought multiple Fodor guidebooks, but the company has lost a customer with this one. It is practically impossible to find ANYTHING in the guidebook without a fully indexed street map of Rome's streets. The maps within it are poorly drawn and labeled, and the flowery prose disguises a deeply flawed organization and very, very poor presentation of multiple things one relies on a guidebook for. I became so disgusted at the book's failure to present information in a way that allowed it to be found quickly that I literally ripped my guidebook up at Piazza Barberini and tossed it in the trash.I think the problem is that this has been updated again and again instead of being rewritten and reorganized, and the chaotic lack of overview has made it practically unusable. Again, Fodor's has lost a regular customer with this poor guidebook.

We borrowed several books from the library in anticipation of a visit to Edinburgh, Scotland. Mom loved the pull out laminated map included in its own plastic snap-closed pocket in this book, so I bought her her own copy so she could plan her days right in the book. She marked pages, wrote notes, highlighted must-sees, charted her bus routes... she was ready to go! The information was fairly recent and largely accurate. Next trip, we'll look for a Fodor book first!

I liked that this book tackles Rome in a series of daily by-the-area itineraries suitable for a person who can spend about a week or more. There are maps of each neighborhood, each clearly marking the major sights/sites with suggested itineraries in some cases. Map and text include notations of "Fodor Favorites", which ensures you at least considered the selection in ranking must sees. Excellent (interpretive) coverage of the art in the Sistine Chapel as well as for Vatican museums. I chose this book as we plan to go to Tivoli and Ostia Antica and this includes complete information & transportation for these in-the-area visits. It also includes a trip to the Castela Romana area just south and east of Rome best visited by car. The table of contents also has a separate listing for maps, which will be useful.

Short and to a point. Full of information and quick stories behind each place. Map in the back extremely useful to get around. Very satisfied with it, after my trip I'll pass it to my cousin.

This is a great pocket guide for our pending London trip.Just the right size and covers a lot of ground with useful information and tips plus cost. Great guide.

Fodors Rome is the only guide book I will take to Rome next year. I used the 2006 edition for several trips and was quick to purchase this one for future trips. It is laid out in a simple clear way with readable maps. It organizes lodgings and sites according to neighborhoods.This is key because Rome is so big and sprawling that in order to efficiently see the many sites it is best to approach this by focusing on neighborhoods.....Fodors does this for you....with a star recommended system that helps you figure out what the best and most important sites,hotels,restaurants are.It is a comprehensive guide book that covers all my needs and interests.

Having been to Rome previously, this guide has good coverage of each of the highlights I remember and being updated is the plus to having it. I find the information will help us plan our revisit to many of the main sights as well as exploring other areas. The walks, one of the main focus in my opinion, are adequate but I miss the street by street directions between a walk's sights which were given in more detail in the Golden editions of the past by Fodor's.

This was a nice all around guide to Rome. I did not find any one guide book I thought covered Rome well enough so used this together with Rick Steve's Rome guide and had all the information I needed to make our trip to Rome a good one. I liked this guide for its detailed description of the individual sites, the history of the city, and the nice photos used in the book. Also provided some nice guidelines for touring the city including guided walks.
