The only bad thing is this book still references DSM IV rather than DSM 5, so certain diagnostic criteria are obviously not up to date. But otherwise an excellent review. Many textbooks have a lot of filler material (for example, may say "it's so important to have compassion in psychiatry..." and then have a big paragraph about that); this book has hardly any filler, and is just chock full of high yield content, well-written and concise.

Excellent for Board exam preparation - even by 2017 standards. Not perfect (i.e. old edition, DSMIV instead of DSM5, typos, exam Qs are poor quality, etc) - but still the most comprehensive(and readable) psychiatry text I've ever read. If they ever make a newer edition, I am buying it without hesitation. It's hard to summarize all of mental health in one book, but somehow they pulled it off.

Unlike the Steps, there is a dearth of review guides for subspecialty boards. This book is one of the only available options for the psychiatry boards and is about as good as it is going to get. Now, maybe you're the ambitious type who is completely ok with taking a few spins through Kaplan & Saddock during the summer months before the boards. But guess who is not one of those people? This girl.This book is comprehensive, covers all the major topics in psychiatry and neurology, and is mostly reflective of what is on the boards. If you read this and were half awake during residency you should pass without too much trouble. Each chapter is written by different authors and some are more clear and helpful than others. The layout is bland text with hundreds of pages of black-and-white print with no pictures. This is a surefire way to put you right to sleep face down on this book. That being said, I do not recommend this book as a pillow. Not comfy in the least.Good luck!

I used this to work more on the questions before the boards. Good adjunct to Board vitals online Qs and Kenny and Spiegel Qs. And I passed the boards. Took the exam with no anxiety

I used the Mass General Review for my last recertification and did well. This edition has a startling number of typos and grammatical errors, which made some points difficult to grasp. I had to go to other source material to make sure the information was correct. When an institution such as Mass General puts its name on a publication, they should have decent proofreading and editing before it is put out.

I am writing this review to point out the ease of navigating through this ebook. The creators of this ebook have solved a troubling issue with other books I have purchased that have questions and answers. The issue is having a series of questions with the answers all grouped together at the end. It is cumbersome in an ebook to flip through multiple pages quickly. This book has a link from every question to its corresponding answer and vice versa. The link allows you to instantly go back and forth. Other books have tried to solve this issue by having the answer directly following the question. This isn't helpful as I find myself always looking at the correct answer before finishing the question. All ebooks should follow the format of this book in terms of providing links between the answer and question. It saves valuable time without spoiling the answer to the question.One more useful feature is that every chart has an attached PDF that can be printed or simply clicked on to see the graph much bigger. Many times in ebooks the graphs are too small to see.I think many review books have similar pitfalls in terms of content however at least this one has solved some of the issues in navigating through a review ebook.

Beats everything out there as a quick reference to prepare for the Boards or recertification.

I got the online course so purchased the Kindle version of the book to accompany. Both, especially the book, are OK reviews but when reviewing PRITES, the level of detail just wasn't up to par. Missed the return deadline by 2 days. Now I have to spend more money on the Kaplan and Saddock Synopsis which is what I should have purchased in the first place.
