I'm a sucker for a yarn well spun, and this book is definitely that. What's even better is a yarn well illuminated by thoroughly realized characters. This book has those in generous supply.You wouldn't expect a 75 year old man to identify with a female protagonist who is in her early or middle twenties, but it did happen. I was right there with her as she left her friends in the city to return to the country estate where she was raised. As she dealt with her relatives I could sympathise. And I was as surprised as she was at what developed at The Choosing. You probably will be, too.

The world building and the gripping story of Hetta Valstar was so riveting that I immediately purchased and read the sequel, and am anxiously awaiting the next installment. Not since I read the Belgariad series, by Ellings have I gotten so caught up in a magical, yet very human tale. I can’t give it a high enough recommendation.

Hetta has a life she adores away from the ancestral home and only comes back due to her father’s passing. Their is also a ceremony requiring each family member to attend, but the results have already been anticipated. It turns out everyone was wrong.

Magic, mystery, intrigue, betrayal, family feuding and fae, there's something to please most people as this delightful tale unfolds. Oh, and don't forget the slow-burn romance... The story dragged in places for me, but got there in the end!

Lovely book. Good world building and great characters. Truly enjoyable read. Fun and lively. Looking forward to the next book.

A gentle romantic tale with a delicate balance of magic and realism intertwined with intrigue feminism and fantasy. Stariel grows on you like the irresistible mystical land it is. Can't wait for the next part.
